Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Shan Sun is a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. She is passionate about providing patient-centered and evidence-based dental care for children of all ages. She strives to make a positive difference for every patient she encounters.

Dr. Sun received her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) in 2011 from McGill University in her hometown of Montreal, Quebec. Dr. Sun then moved across the country to pursue a Pediatric General Practice Residency (GPR) at the B.C. Children’s Hospital. During residency, Dr. Sun had the opportunity to work with children with complex medical needs, practise in Northern communities such as Haida Gwaii as well as participate in an outreach rotation to rural Vietnam and Cambodia.

Pursuing her passion for pediatrics, Dr. Sun went on to complete her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of British Columbia where she concurrently obtained a Masters in Craniofacial Science. Her research focused on access to dental care for children with special needs in the province.

Dr. Sun is a Pediatric Dentistry fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, British Columbia Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the British Columbia Dental Association. Dr. Sun is also committed to teaching and training future dentists and specialists and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia and Staff Dentist at the BC Children’s Hospital.

In her spare time, Dr. Sun practises yoga and loves to travel with her husband. She is fluent in English, French and Mandarin
